MIDWINTER – The annual celebration held in overwintering research stations across Antarctica has been the starting point for this collection. The day of the southern winter solstice marks the progressive return of the sun and has been celebrated every year since the early 20th century. Photographic documentation from midwinter parties in the 1960s has been a visual source of inspiration: we imagined a set in which one could sense this energy. The centerpieces of Midwinter are opulent dinners, eclectic costumes, and elaborate decorations. There is something poetic in all this effort, despite being in total isolation. This fragile balance set the mood to imagine our characters: the Midwinter Heroes.
